2026 Artists Respond to Poetry

Arts Mid-Hudson's ninth annual celebration of National Poetry Month, Artists Respond to Poetry, is where poems inspire art. This very special exhibition brings together 20 poets and 20 visual artists, with each artist creating an original work in response to a selected poem.

My poem, In Memoriam, was accepted and then chosen by photographer Andrea Stanet. Her work is titled "The One He Never Got."

Writing the Walls 2025:

Reflections

‘Writing the Walls’, now 20 years old, began in 2005 when Artistic Director Mara Mills, Studio Theater in Exile, and Livia Straus, co-founder HVMOCA, decided to integrate visual arts by  reaching the community to contribute original works reflective of their interaction with art in the exhibit. This partnership has been a creative collaboration that has spurred and grown with community creativity.

Writing the Walls: REFLECTIONS was based on two exhibitions, “Psychological Portraits” (in Main Gallery) and the 2025 juried show, “So, You Think I’m too Old to…” (Upstairs Gallery).

Two of my poems, Misgivings and The Woolf Inside, were chosen by a juried committee. The performances ran for three weekends in April-May.

Writing the Walls 2024:

War

Writing the Walls 2024 built on the Theme 'WAR', with writers and composers asked to create works that were inspired by the visuals selected based on an open call for the Juried exhibition 'WAR'.  Performances were  staged in the Studio Theatre in Exile's Black Box Theatre at HVMOCA.

My three poems, Misgivings, In Memoriam, and Maritza, in Pieces were accepted and I recited them over three weekends of shows.
